Why Refer to a Registered Dietitian

Physicians consistently recognize Registered Dietitians as the most qualified providers for patients managing obesity. MNT delivered by a dietitian for overweight and obese adults has been shown to produce significant weight loss, averaging approximately 1 to 2 lbs per week over a period of less than six months. Between six and twelve months, patients typically maintain an average weight loss of 10% beyond the one-year mark.

MNT also reduces health-related costs associated with physician time, medication use, and hospital admissions across a wide range of chronic conditions, including diabetes, heart disease, and renal disease. Measurable improvements include reductions in weight, HbA1c, lipid profiles, and blood pressure, as well as enhanced quality of life and productivity.

For diabetes management specifically, research has demonstrated that MNT can reduce HbA1c by an average of 1% in patients newly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and by 2% in those newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. MNT is also an essential component of preventive care for patients with prediabetes.

Insurance Coverage

Food 4 Success, LLC accepts most major private insurance plans as well as Medicare. Please note that nutrition counseling is a Medicare Part B service and is covered only for patients diagnosed with diabetes or kidney disease. Medicare and some private insurance carriers require a physician referral for coverage, along with the appropriate diagnostic codes.

We have prepared a convenient insurance coverage reference sheet that outlines the requirements for getting your patients covered.
